In addition to the 42 diploma points available for student performance on each of the six subjects, there are a further three points obtainable according to a matrix based on student performance in TOK and the extended essay.
  TOK
EE   A B C D E NS
A 3 3 2 2 1+FC N
B 3 2 1 1 FC N
C 2 1 1 0 FC N
D 2 1 0 0 FC N
E 1+FC FC FC FC FC N
NS N N N N N N

Explanations

  1. NS = not submitted. Students who do not submit a TOK presentation, a TOK essay, or an extended essay will not receive a diploma.
  2. FC = failing condition. FC in both TOK and EE prevents a student from receiving a diploma.
  3. FC+1 means that a student has achieved FC in one area but is awarded an extra point for having achieved an A in the other area.
  4. Beginning in 2010, students who receive an E in either TOK or EE must earn 28 points to receive a diploma.
